How To Create A Guest Room Out Of A Home Office
Have you ever wanted to extend an invitation to family or friends to stay over, but don’t have the extra space for a guest bedroom?
Problem solved folks! We found a super simple solution. Let me introduce you to the modern-day murphy bed!
The murphy bed is located behind the desk. It’s disguised as a shelf to display decorative items on when the space is set up as an office.
The size of this room is 11x12, and because it’s on the smaller size our goal was to find a solution to turn our office into a usable guest room combo.
How we created our office guestroom combo:
Opened up the entrance to the room to create a grand feel for the office by adding custom-made barn doors.
Added new flooring throughout the home and office to keep it cohesive.
Swapped out the old light fixture with a more modern fixture from Crate & Barrel.
Continued the same color from the rest of the home into the office by using Sherwin Williams White - Alabaster.
Added and assembled the murphy bed. We decided on the full-size murphy bed option to give our guests plenty of space.
We researched a million different murphy beds and stumbled upon a company called Lori Wall Bed. We ultimately decided on this option as it was affordable, good quality, and easy to set up for when guests would stay over.
Why we LOVE our office & guest room combo:
We love that this room isn’t a waste of space and actually serves a multifunctional purpose.
For the few times that we do have guests over, we love that they can have their own bedroom.
The murphy bed can be painted, stained, or clear coated.
We also appreciate being able to store decor items on the murphy bed when it’s not being utilized.
In the end, I’m so glad we didn’t pass on this home due to the lack of guest bedroom space. With a little creative thinking and planning, we were able to accomplish everything we wanted out of one space!
