From Corporate to Real Estate: My Journey of Quitting My Job and Pursuing My Real Estate Career
I quit my day job in 2016 with ZERO plan or goal in mind.
Before my career in real estate, I spent five years traveling around the US selling a National CPG brand I didn’t believe in AT ALL. I knew in my gut that climbing the corporate ladder wasn’t for me. I’m the type of person who likes to work, and I knew I wanted to work even after having kids.
Unfortunately, the corporate work I was doing was not satisfying my soul. I remember the moment as if it was yesterday when I finally reached my tipping point. I was standing in line at the Minneapolis airport check-in, and all I kept thinking about was how horrible it was that I was leaving our little 3-month old at home with Adam. This did not sit well with me...insert first-time mom guilt!
From that day on, I made a decision never to have to face not being able to tuck my babies into bed again. I quit my steady and predictable day job just like that. Luckily, I was already a licensed real estate agent before quitting. I exclusively represented an investor group (very part-time) on the side of my corporate gig, but honestly never dreamed of utilizing my real estate license full-time.
But, with some encouragement from my husband, I started my real estate journey full-time. I was initially nervous, not knowing if I would be successful, but I was determined to make it work. My goal was to create a career that allowed me the flexibility to be there for my family while doing something I was genuinely passionate about.
I started by working with friends and family and quickly expanded my reach by getting involved in the community and networking with other professionals. Building relationships became the cornerstone of my business, which has allowed me to continue to grow in this industry.
Fast forward several years, and I'm now working with my husband in real estate, helping families find their dream homes and helping sellers navigate the selling process. I'm grateful every day for my decision to leave my corporate job and pursue my passion for real estate.
If you're feeling unfulfilled in your current career, I encourage you to take a leap of faith and pursue your passions. It's never too late to make a change and create a career that truly fulfills you.
Now here we are in 2021 doing something I still passionately love doing every day. This might sound super corny, but it’s true what they say, it doesn’t feel like work if you love what you do.
Sure, some days can be stressful, but I get to work with my husband and tuck our kids into bed every night. For that reason alone, I’m very grateful that we have the opportunity to help others locally in the Twin Cities area buy, sell, and renovate.
Leaving my corporate life was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’m a true believer in taking chances and listening to your gut! As Nike says ~ Just Do It
